Why I Started Sharing Reiki With Dogs Specifically As a little girl, I was a child of divorced parents and underwent a lot of emotional stress. I was the kid who was picked on at school and always left out of the loop. I felt extremely alone and isolated. Aside from God’s light and love, the greatest source of comfort and unconditional love for me came from my childhood dog, Ginger. I remember coming home from school, to an empty house, and curling up in a tiny space between our backdoor and basement door, where Ginger would eagerly welcome me home, smothering me with kisses while her tail wagged back-and-forth in excited glee… sometimes that would be the first time I felt love all day.
As I grew into a young woman, and now into adulthood, dogs have continued to be a great source of comfort in my life. Throughout my entire life, dogs have provided me with unconditional light and love; and they continue to do so. And as the Spirit of Dog has given so much to me throughout my life, now it’s my turn to return some of that light and love back to them. I love dogs; I understand dogs. I even remember as a little girl arguing with my parents that Ginger could talk to me. Of course, I was told that I was off my rocker. But now I know why I would adamantly argue that point ….dogs can communicate with me, and I with them. Together, we speak a language of pure acceptance, encompassing all love and light. Thank you God, for the gift of dogs!

Will I Share Reiki With Other Animals? YES!!! Although my primary focus when first starting Animal Reiki was to work with dogs, I have since expanded my clientele to include cats, horses, as well as various other animals. Although the animal may be different from a dog, Reiki still works the same way! Therefore, anything you've read on this page about Reiki for dogs, would also apply to most other animals. If you have questions regarding Animal Reiki, please call us at 303.862.5424.

As “Mr. Rowan” begins to accept and further open up to Reiki, he walks into Caly’s hands to position himself, showing where HE wants Reiki to flow. |

“Mr. Rowan” nuzzles up to Caly following his Reiki Session. Such contentedness! |

Why Share Reiki With Animals?
Like humans, animals get stressed and are challenged by disease and illness. Just as Reiki helps humans, so it helps all animals!
|
How Does An Animal Reiki Session Work? First and foremost, I ask for the animal’s permission to share Reiki with him/her. There are a few reasons for this. Just like people, some animals will not be open to Reiki. If an animal is not open to Reiki, the flow of Reiki will be blocked. Additionally, asking for permission lets the animal know that s/he is in control of the Session; this provides assurance to the animal that nothing will happen that they don’t desire. Once given permission, I proceed to channel Reiki to the animal by placing my hands on my lap, while intending the Reiki to flow to the animal. Or if the animal is very open to Reiki, I will gently place my hands upon him/her, and channel Reiki to them hands-on.
Reflect Upon This: All animals are very intuitive. Studies have proven that dogs can detect cancer in humans and that they can sense when a human is going to have a stroke, before the stroke itself actually happens. If dogs can detect all of that in humans, just imagine how much they instinctively know about their own healing!! As such, animals often guide me to the area of their body where they are most in need of healing. How? By positioning the area of their body most in need of healing as close to my hands as possible.
Note: There should be no distractions during the Reiki Session (such as toys to play with, snacks for good behavior, an entire family looking on, etc.). This is a time for healing and stillness.
|
Arielle drifts far away, as Caly shares Reiki with her using the “aura approach” (where hands do not even touch the subject’s body). In most sessions, this is how animals accept Reiki (although some animals do allow for the placement of hands on their bodies, which is fine too)!
CLOSING THOUGHTS
- Reiki NEVER harms.
- Reiki is never intended to replace the advice of your veterinarian. I work in conjunction with, not against, any medical doctor’s care.
- Animals are intuitive; they are drawn to healers and their healing energy.
- When in pain, even good pets can display bad behavior.
- Reiki is always meant for the “highest good.” Even if an animal is passing on, Reiki will help the animal to peacefully transition over.
|
Some Signs That An Animal Is Accepting Reiki
- He will come sniff/lick my hands.
- He will nuzzle his head underneath my hands, prompting me to pet him and/or keep my hands on him.
- He will lie down in front of me.
- He will position the area of his body that needs healing as closely as possible towards my hands.
- He will fall into a peaceful sleep or relaxed state.

“St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals”
Make me a channel of your Peace Where there is hatred let me bring your love Where there is injury your pardon Lord Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope Where there is darkness only light Where there’s sadness, ever joy.
Oh Master grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console To be understood, as to understand To be loved, as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your Peace It is in pardoning that we are pardoned In giving of ourselves that we receive And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
